Guess What?
Not everyone who pursues you wants to build something with you.
Some people simply enjoy access.
Access to your attention. Access to your time. Access to your body. Access to your emotional support.

The problem is that access can look a lot like genuine interest... right up until it's time for commitment.
Early on, access and intention often look identical. The texts. The phone calls. The chemistry. The weekend plans. The affection.
But there's one important difference:
Access is what someone wants today. Commitment is what they're willing to build tomorrow.
That's why so many people confuse attention with investment.
🎭 They Enjoy the Benefits
Someone can text you every day. Spend weekends with you. Call you when they're lonely. Tell you they miss you. Lean on you when life gets hard.
None of those things automatically mean they're building toward a relationship.
The connection may be genuine, but genuine connection doesn't always come with genuine commitment.
Sometimes someone simply enjoys everything a relationship provides—without ever intending to define it.
A relationship without commitment often feels emotionally close while remaining intentionally undefined.
They receive companionship, intimacy, emotional support, and consistency while avoiding the responsibility that comes with choosing you.
That's why some relationships feel real... but never become official.
💰 Attention Isn't Investment
Investment costs something. Attention doesn't. A text takes seconds.
A compliment is easy.
A "good morning" message isn't commitment. Investment requires sacrifice.
It requires someone to create clarity, accept responsibility, and make decisions that move the relationship forward.
Attention says, "I'm thinking about you."
Investment says, "I'm building with you."
If nothing becomes clearer over time, the relationship may be receiving attention—but not investment.
🧠 Why This Feels So Confusing
Someone can genuinely enjoy your company and still have no intention of building a future with you. Those two things can exist at the same time.
They may care about you. Enjoy talking to you. Feel attracted to you.
Even miss you.
But enjoying someone isn't the same as choosing someone.
Chemistry creates emotional momentum. Commitment creates direction.
When chemistry is strong, it's easy to mistake closeness for progress.
That's how situationships last months—or even years.
📈 Look for Progress, Not Presence
Don't measure a relationship by how often someone shows up.
Measure it by where it's going.
Is there more clarity? More accountability? More shared planning?
More commitment?
Healthy relationships become more defined over time.
Access-only relationships simply become more comfortable.
Presence without progress creates confusion.
👀 The Prospect Perspective
One of the biggest dating mistakes is confusing access with investment.
Someone having access to you doesn't necessarily mean they're building a life with you.

Pay less attention to their words and routines.
Pay more attention to the direction of the relationship.
Because attention can be given to many people.
Investment is usually reserved for the person someone intends to choose.
